Anna Novoseltseva Earns Fifth-Place Finish at Mid-Atlantic/South Regional

Temple had four fencers move into the final round
MADISON, N.J. – Junior foilist Anna Novoseltseva earned a fifth-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regional on Saturday, the highest finish of the day for Temple.
The Owls had three fencers exempt from the first-round of competition in their respective weapons, Margherita Calderaro (epee), Lauren Johnson (sabre), and Eva Ventura (sabre) automatically moved into quarterfinal pool play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- All five Owls foilists, moved through the first round of play. Junior Anna Novoseltseva finished in second of 35 competitors, while Renee Oymann finished fourth in the first round, and senior Elizabeth Novoseltseva finished in fourth. Anastasia Yankovskiy also earned a top-five finish and Constança Dimas finished seventh. In the quarterfinals, Anna Novoseltseva, Oymann, Yankovskiy, and Dimas moved into the semifinal round, but the junior from Grand Rapids, Mich. Anna Novoseltseva was the lone Owls' foilist to move into the final round, where she picked up a fifth-place finish. Yankovskiy was the next highest finisher at 14th, while Dimas and Oymann finished 15th and 16th, respectively. Elizabeth Novoseltseva earned a top 20 finish on the day.
- In sabre, upperclassmen Zoe Turner and Alexandra Weinberg advanced through the first round. In the quarterfinals, the two joined Johnson, but Johnson was the lone TU sabreist to advance through to the semifinals and finals, eventually placing in eighth place overall. Ventura finished 19th, while Turner, Weinberg finished 20th and 27th, respectively.
- Epeeist Grace Smith advanced from round one of pool play and joined her teammate Calderaro in the quarterfinals, while Lindsey Minor was eliminated during the first round. Smith and Calderaro continued through to the finals before ending their days at 11 and 12, respectively. Minor ended her day early, in the 33rd position.
- The team will await NCAA selections to be made by the NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Committee on Tuesday, March 12.
