Women’s Track & Field Heads to AAC Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Temple Women's Track & Field program is set to travel to San Antonio, Texas to compete in the 2024 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The Cherry & White are set to have 11 athletes compete in the championships, across 12 events. The three-day championships hosted by UTSA at the Park West Athletics Complex will begin on May 10 and conclude on May 12.
Last Time Out
> The Owls competed at the 128th running of the Penn Relays and came away with six total medals, a new program record.
> Cierra Crane led the way, becoming the first ever Temple Owl to win the collegiate pole vault.
> Amira Green (high jump), Nicole Castor (high jump), Inara Shell (triple jump), Obiamaka Igwenagu (triple jump), and Aliza White Vega all earned medals in their respective events.
Previewing the Owls
> The Owls open the three-day competition with three athletes competing in the 200-meter prelims: Jade Pope, Allyson Metzger, and Nya Browne.
> On Day 2, Obiamaka Igwenagu and Inara Shell will compete in the long jump. Cierra Crane and Aliza White Vega will take on the competition in the pole vault.
> Browne will compete in the 100-meter hurdles, as well as the 100-meter sprint alongside Metzger. Temple will be represented by Pope and Laila Cottom in the 400 meters.
> Elsa Chan rounds out Day 2 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
> On Sunday, Shell and Igwenagu will both compete in the triple jump. Nicole Castor and Amira Green will represent the Owls in the high jump.
> Chan will take the track for the 5,000 meters.
> The Owls 4x400 meter relay team will consist of Metzger, Cotton, Browne and Pope.
> Finals for sprint events will take place on Sunday. Placement in the heats on Friday and Saturday will determine if the Owls will race in the finals on Sunday.
