Volleyball Upended by No. 7 Penn State on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple volleyball team took on No. 7 Penn State (2-0) to wrap up Labor Day weekend play in front of a lively McGonigle Hall Crowd. The Owls fell to 3-1 overall after a 25-16, 25-17, 25-17 loss to Nittany Lions.

How it Happened
- Penn State hit .291 as a team, led by Caroline Jurevicius' nine kills. Teammate Jess Mruzik was the only other Nittany Lions player to crack five kills.
- As a team, Penn State recorded 12 service aces, led by Jocelyn Nathan's four.
- Owls' Freshmen Sydney Jones and Christiana Greene along with graduate student Taylor Davenport led the team offensively. Jones and Davenport led the Temple with seven kills apiece and Christiana Greene recorded six.
Set 1 (PSU 25, TEM 16)
- In her only set of action, the Lions' Mruzik earned all five of her kills as she hit .556.
- The Columbia, S.C. native Greene hit .600 in the first set with three kills, tying with her teammate Davenport.
Set 2 (PSU 25, TEM 17)
- With the score tied at 6-6, Penn State scored eight straight points on Nathan's serve. During the run, Nathan tallied three of her four total aces on the day.
- Jurevicius led the Nittany Lions with four kills.
- TU's Jones had her offense working as she scored a set-high four kills while hitting .444.
Set 3 (PSU 25, TEM 17)
- Temple took its first lead in the match early in set three and then continued to battle against the nationally-ranked Nittany Lions. The Owls kept the score close in the early stages of set three, not allowing Penn State to run away with the lead and staying within three points, eventually tying the score 8-8.
- At 10-9, PSU four straight points and five of six, including two of her three kills in the set from Jurevicius. Jurevicius tied with her teammate Angelina Starck for the set-high, but hit .600.
