Mashburn Jr. Earns First AAC Player of the Week Award

PHILADELPHIA - Graduate student Jamal Mashburn Jr. was named the American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league on Monday. Mashburn Jr. received his first Player of the Week accolade after leading the Owls to a pair of home AAC wins.
Against nationally-ranked Memphis on Jan. 16, the Miami, Fla. native scored a team-best 21 points to help the Owls hand the Tigers their first AAC loss of the year. Mashburn Jr. added five rebounds and four assists, in addition to going 11-for-12 from the free-throw line.Â
Three days later, Mashburn Jr. scored a season-high 32 points on an efficient 12-for-16 shooting in an 80-77 victory over Tulane. The 32 points were one off a career high, set Jan. 23, 2023 against Nevada while he was a member of the New Mexico program.
On the week, Mashburn Jr. averaged 26.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor. He currently ranks second in the AAC and sixth nationally in scoring at 21.3 points per game, and is shooting 43.5 percent from three-point range, which is tied for second in the league.
Temple (12-6, 4-1 AAC) returns to the road for its next two games, beginning with a showdown with North Texas (13-4, 4-1 AAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 22. That contest will air live on ESPN+, beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET.
