Temple Earns Mid-Week Win Over Hofstra

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's basketball (3-1, 0-0 AMER) topped the Hofstra Pride (2-3, 0-0 CAA) 81-76 in front of a crowd of 2,442 at the Liacouras Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a tightly contested start at the Liacouras Center with Hofstra leading the way by four points at the halfway point of the first half. Aiden Tobiason led the way early with five points through the first ten minutes.
- Courtesy of a block from Babatunde Durodola and an and-one opportunity from Derrian Ford, the Owls evened the score at 24 apiece with six minutes to play in the first half. Aiden Tobiason would convert from deep to cap off an 8-0 run to give Temple the lead.
- The rest of the second half would be a back-and-forth affair. Jordan Mason converted on a last-second shot to lift the Owls to a 33-31 lead heading into the halftime break.
- The second half would pick up right where it left off, with each side fighting to gain momentum. The Owls would eventually break through with a quick three from Tobiason and a second-chance lay-in from Durodola to take a four-point lead.
- However, each side would revert to even with both teams combining to score 12 points through a 1:20 span midway through the second half. The Owls held a slim one-point lead at the eight-minute mark.
- Gavin Griffiths would begin to heat up with two three-pointers and a block to elevate Temple's lead to eight with five minutes remaining.
- Hofstra would bounce back with a quick 6-0 run to push the score back to a two-point affair with 2:24 remaining. The teams would go back and forth with Temple taking a four-point lead via a Durodola layup with a minute remaining.
- Both sides would trade free throws for the remainder of the contest, with Temple eventually holding its lead to secure an 81-76 win.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- By the end of the first half, Aidan Tobiason notched his fourth game in as many chances this season with double-digit points. Tobiason led the Owls with 10 points after the first 20 minutes.
- With eight points, Jamai Felt set a season high. This tops his mark of four against La Salle.
- Tonight's win over the Pride marks the 10th straight win over a CAA opponent for Temple dating back to the 2013-14 season.
- Gavin Griffiths has now hit seven threes over his last two games, all coming in the second half. His four makes against Boston College set a new career high, with each total either matching or surpassing his previous best entering the 2025–26 season.
- Aiden Tobiason and Derrian Ford each eclipsed 20 points. This is the first game were two Owls scored at least 20 since February of last season.
UP NEXT
- The Owls will head south to Kissimmee, Fla., during Thanksgiving week to compete in the Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational. Temple will first take on the UC San Diego Tritons on Monday, Nov. 24, at 4:30 pm on ESPNU. On Tuesday, Nov. 25, the Owls will face the winner of Princeton and Bradley.
