Mashburn Jr. Named to Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University men's basketball standout Jamal Mashburn Jr. has been selected for the Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List, it was announced by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association on Monday. Members of the association's board of directors chose the top 50 players that will be considered as contenders for the National Player of the Year. All Division I players remain eligible for the award.
A two-time American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honoree, Mashburn Jr. currently ranks second nationally in scoring at 22.1 points per game and sits atop the AAC scoring list. During conference play, he has taken his game to another level and is averaging 25.0 ppg and is shooting 44.4 percent from three-point range as the Owls stand in fourth place with a 6-3 record.
On the year, the 6-2 guard leads the AAC in both scoring and three-point field goal percentage (44.2%), and is third in minutes played at 36.1 per game.
Given out annually to the outstanding men's college basketball player by the USBWA, the Oscar Robertson Trophy winner is to be announced at the NCAA Men's Final Four in San Antonio, from April 5-7. The formal presentation of the trophy will follow at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon hosted by the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis. A final watch list will be released in early and those chosen will be included on the USBWA's annual awards ballot.
