Mashburn Jr. Earns USBWA National Player of the Week Honors
2.4.25 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA - Another day, another award for Temple men's basketball standout Jamal Mashburn Jr. On Tuesday, he was named one of five National Players of the Week by the United States Basketball Writers Association after leading the Owls to a pair of home American Athletic Conference wins last week.
Mashburn Jr. put together back-to-back 30-point performances in victories over Charlotte and East Carolina, scoring a career-high 34 points in the double-overtime game against the 49ers. In that contest, the 6-2 guard connected on 10 of 22 attempts from the field, including 3-for-5 from three-point range, and added six rebounds in 46 minutes of action.
Three days later, Mashburn Jr. was an efficient 10-for-16 from the floor, 2-for-3 from downtown, and connected on 10 of his 13 free-throw attempts while adding four assists against no turnovers while playing all 45 minutes.
For the season, the Miami, Fla. product is averaging an AAC-leading 22.1 points per game to rank second among all NCAA Division I players. He is also shooting an impressive 44.2 percent from three-point range to lead the league. His percentage would rank in the top 20 in the nation if he met the minimum 2.0 3FG/game criteria.
The Owls (14-8, 6-3 AAC) hit the road for a pair of important league matchups, beginning on Thursday, February 6 with a tilt at South Florida. The game is set to tipoff at 7:00 p.m. and will air live nationally on ESPN2.
