Mashburn Jr., Tobiason Garner AAC Postseason Honors
3.11.25 | Men's Basketball
IRVING, Texas – Before the tipoff of the American Men's Basketball Championships, the AAC announced that Temple's Jamal Mashburn Jr. and Aiden Tobiason received conference accolades.
Mashburn Jr. was named to the All-AAC Second Team and the All-Newcomer Team, while Tobiason was selected to the AAC All-Freshman Team.
Mashburn Jr. thrived in his first and only season with the Cherry and White after transferring from New Mexico. The Miami native ranked second nationally in scoring average and led the AAC prior to suffering a lower-body injury, which forced him to miss eight of the past nine contests.
Despite his absence from the court, the graduate student guard still recorded the seventh-most points (505) and free throws (124) in the conference through 23 games.
Entering the postseason, the Oscar Robertson Midseason Watch List honoree holds averages of 22.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists. A two-time AAC Player of the Week, Mashburn Jr. posted 20-plus points in 16 contests and surpassed 30 points three times, including a career-best 34-point effort in a double-overtime victory over Charlotte. In 10 AAC games, he averaged 24.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
Mashburn Jr. becomes the first all-conference team selection under head coach Adam Fisher and the first Owl named to the All-AAC Second Team since Damain Battle in 2021-22. He is also Temple's first honoree on the AAC All-Newcomer Team, which was introduced this season.
Tobiason made an immediate impact in his first year on North Broad Street, starting 21 of his 26 appearances for the Cherry and White heading into the AAC tournament. He enters postseason play averaging 4.7 points and 2.1 rebounds, while shooting 45.2 percent from the floor and 40 percent from 3-point range.
The Wilmington, Del., native reached double figures five times this season, including a season-high 18 points against nationally ranked Memphis. In conference action, Tobiason shot 49.1 percent from the field, 45.2 percent from beyond the arc and 76.9 percent from the free-throw line.
The former Delaware State Player of the Year is the sixth Owl to land on the AAC All-Freshman Team, joining Quinton Rose (2016-17), Nate Pierre-Louis (2017-18), Zach Hicks (2021-22), Jahlil White (2021-22) and current teammate Zion Stanford.
Temple opens the AAC Championships on Thursday, March 13, at 7 p.m. ET against Tulsa at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
