First-Place Finishes and Personal Records Power Temple in New York

1.24.26 | Women's Track and Field

New York, N.Y. - Temple University's women's indoor track & field team competed at the Dr. Sander Columbia Scorcher at the N.Y. Armory this weekend. The team competed against nearly 30 other schools. The Owls came in first in the triple jump, the Distance Medley Relay (DMR), and the pole vault. They also set multiple personal records throughout the two-day event.

Results: Friday
  • In the 800m (Open), Laila Cottom set a new personal record with a time of 2:18.07, putting her in sixth place out of 44 athletes. Also competing in the event was Emilie Creighton and she finished with a time of 2:33.94.
  • Freshman Dagny Shiffler ran in the 800m (Invitational) and finished with a time of 2:33.34.
  • Janae Pettaway raced in the 60m Open and finished with a time of 7.92 putting her in sixth out of 46 competitors. Lila Ziegler also competed in this event and came across the line with a time of 8.02.
  • In the 400m (Seeded), Kei-Mahri Hanna (56.92) and Mariah Jameson (56.93) both won their heats and placed fourth and fifth respectively out of 54 athletes. Chloe Smith came in with a time of 58.32 giving her 17th, and Grace Hickman placed right behind her with a time of 58.48, setting a new personal record for the sophomore. Finally, Briyel Brown clocked in with a time of 1:00.42. 
  • The DMR (Open) team of Rose Tuomisto, Jameson, Cottom, and Rian Johnson finished in first place out of eight other schools. Their total time of 11:55.44 ranks them 11th out of 46th in NCAA DI DMR teams. 
  • Inara Shell set a new personal record in the triple jump invitational with a distance of 12.87m (42'- 2.75"). Giving the senior first place in the event and ranking her inside the top-30 among all NCAA DI athletes. Freshman Shalisha Robertson also competed in this event and ended with a distance of 11.53m (37'-10.00"). 

Results: Saturday
  • In the 200m (Open), Ziegler placed 14th out of 67 athletes after finishing with a time of 26.16. Aly Doyle came across the line with a time of 26.41 for a 27th place finish, and it also set a new personal record for the freshman. Pettaway clocked in with a time of 26.82 putting her in 43rd. 
  • Johnson ran in the one mile invitational finishing with a new personal record of 4:56.22. 
  • Jameson, Smith, Hickman, and Brown made up the only 4x400m team for Temple as they placed seventh out of 12 schools with a time of 3:59.10. 
  • Tuomisto was the only one to represent the Cherry and White in the 5,000m (Invitational) and finished in eighth out of 19 runners with a time of 17:19.78. Marking a new personal record for the freshman. 
  • Smilla Ranebro competed in the high jump invitational and cleared the bar at a height of 1.63m (5'-4.25"). Her new personal record put her 14th out of 31 athletes. 
  • Shell placed seventh out of 23 competitors in the long jump invitational after reaching a distance of 5.43m (17'- 9.75"). Doyle also participated in this event and ended with a distance of 5.30m (17'-4.75") putting her in 11th. 
  • Freshman Kamryn Ohm tied for first in the pole vault open with a height of 3.55m (11'-7.75"). 
  • In the pole vault invitational, Emelie Beckman tied for third out of 13 athletes after reaching a height of 3.95m (12'-5.25"). She now ranks 75th among all NCAA DI athletes in this event.

The Owls will return to the Ott Center located in South Philadelphia on Jan. 30, for the Penn Invitational.
