Women's Track and Field Headed to Penn State for Sykes and Sabock Challenge

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University's women's indoor track and field team is set to compete this Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Sykes and Sabock Challenge, hosted by Penn State. This meet will be held at the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track. The jumping events will commence at 11:00 a.m., followed by the running events at 12:00 p.m.

Previewing The Owls
  • A total of 20 athletes will represent the Cherry and White this Saturday across 14 events.
  • Temple is currently ranked ninth nationally in the triple jump. Inara Shell leads the Owls in the event with a mark of 12.87m, which ranks second all-time in Temple indoor history.
  • Emelie Beckman is ranked first in the American Conference in the pole vault after clearing 4.02m last week to win the Penn Invitational. That height also places her tied for 70th among over 500 NCAA Division I athletes.
  • Competing in the jumps are Beckman (pole vault), Aly Doyle (long jump), Kamryn Ohm (pole vault), Smilla Ranebro (high jump, triple jump), Shalisha Robertson (triple jump), Reagan Schwartz (triple jump), Shell (long jump, triple jump), and Reece Sullivan (pole vault).
  • Janae Pettaway and Lila Ziegler will represent Temple in the 60m dash.
  • Zayniah Ali and Doyle will compete in the 60m hurdles.
  • Running in the 200m are Ali, Pettaway, and Ziegler.
  • The 400m will feature Kei-Mahri Hanna, Grace Hickman, Mariah Jameson, and Chloe Smith.
  • Jayla Green and Dicia Watkins will compete in the 600m.
  • Laila Cottom will be the Owls' lone entry in the 800m.
  • Rose Tuomisto will race in the 1,000m and the mile. She recently broke a Temple freshman record in the 5,000m, running 17:19.78 and improving her previous best by nearly two minutes.
  • Rian Johnson will be Temple's only competitor in the 3,000m. The freshman recently set a personal record in the mile with a time of 4:56.22.
  • Temple will have four athletes competing in the final event, the 4x400m relay: Hanna, Hickman, Jameson, and Smith.
Up Next
The Owls will send their distance athletes to the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University, on Feb. 13–14. The remainder of the team will compete at the Widener Indoor Classic at the Ott Center on Feb. 14.
