Danica Deckard joined the Temple field hockey staff as a graduate assistant coach in August, 2013. Deckard came to North Broad Street after a standout, four-year career at Ohio State, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education and human ecology. She will be working toward her master’s degree in sports business while at Temple.
Deckard was named to the NFHCA All-Region First Team as a senior after also earning her second-straight All-Big Ten Second Team honor. She also earned all-region second team honors as a junior. Deckard, a native of Selinsgrove, Pa., finished at the top of multiple offensive categories in the Big Ten in 2012, including tying for third in gamewinners (5), ranking seventh in points (33) and eighth in points per game (1.78). She led the Buckeyes with 33 points on 13 goals and seven assists with 10 multi-point performances in 2012. Deckard led OSU in her junior season with 11 goals, and scored nine goals as a sophomore. That season, Deckard helped the Buckeyes claim a share of the Big Ten regular season championship with a goal in a 3-0 shutout at Iowa, and went on to tally a goal in the Buckeyes' 3-2 win against Syracuse in the NCAA quarterfinals at State College, Pa.
Off the field, Deckard was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, a three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and a 2010 NFHCA National Academic honoree. She played for Selinsgrove High School, helping the team win the District IV Championship, Susquehanna Valley League Championship and HAC Championship every season from 2005-08, totaling 28 goals and eight assists in that span.
