Camren Wynter
- Title:
- Special Assistant to the Head Coach
Camren Wynter, who was a key player in helping Penn State earn a bid to the 2023 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, is in his second year as the Special Assistant to Temple Men’s Basketball Head Coach Adam Fisher.
The Owls made significant progress in the second season under Fisher's staff, improving their regular-season win total by five and adding four additional victories in AAC play. Temple's offense shined, setting a new program record of 78.8 points per game. Defending the Liacouras Center with pride, the Owls boasted a 12-2 record on North Broad Street, defeating No. 18 Memphis and North Texas. Temple became the only AAC team to beat the top two seeded conference teams in the regular season.
In 2023-24, Temple became the first team in American Athletic Conference history to win four games in four days at the conference tournament and helped guide Temple to its first appearance in the AAC championship game. TU finished second in program history with 296 made three-pointers and were 31st nationally with just 9.9 turnovers per game. The Owls also came away with 7.4 steals an outing, a jump of more than two per game from the previous season and their highest total since 2018-19.
Wynter, who played just one season at Penn State after transferring from Drexel, played in all 37 games during the 2022-23 season, making 33 starts. The Hempstead, N.Y. native averaged 8.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting a career-best 47.7 from the field. He was instrumental in helping the Nittany Lions earn an at-large berth to the NCAAs as he made back-to-back game-winning shots in final two regular season contests. He also earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors for his last second heroics.
The recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, Wynter tallied double figures 15 times on the season with a season-high 26 at Clemson (Nov. 29). He also led Penn State in scoring in its second round NCAA Tournament game against Texas, scoring 16 points in a tough 71-66 loss to the second-seeded and fifth-ranked Longhorns.
Prior to his arrival at Penn State, Wynter had a standout career at Drexel. The three-year team captain was a three-time All-CAA pick, the 2021 CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player, the 2019 CAA Rookie of the Year, and four-time team MVP. He averaged double figures in points in all four seasons while compiling 1,657 points, 577 assists and 493 rebounds. His 577 assists rank third in Drexel history, his 1,657 points rank sixth and his 140 steals are good for eighth all-time in the Dragon record books.
Including his totals at Penn State, Wynter is one of nine Division I players since the 1992-93 season (30 years) to have accumulated 1,900+ career points (1,988), 600+ career assists (651) and 600+ career rebounds (601). He also made 160 career steals.
