Background
Smith comes to Temple from Howard High School in Ellicott City, Md., where she competed as a Level 10 all-around gymnast. As a senior, Smith finished as the Maryland Level 10 State runner-up in the all-around and on uneven bars before placing third in the all-around, vault and bars at the Region 7 Championships. She also qualified for the USA Gymnastics Development Program National Championships.
As a junior, Smith placed third in the Maryland Level 10 all-around and captured the Region 7 uneven bars title while qualifying to nationals as an alternate and bars specialist. Injuries limited her competition during her freshman and sophomore seasons, but Smith returned to become one of Maryland's top Level 10 gymnasts during the final two years of her club career. She also earned her club's Most Improved Award.
