Temple Will Retire Mark Macon and Marilyn Stephens-Franklyn Jerseys and Honor Harry Litwack at the Basketball Home Opener On Sunday, Nov. 21

PHILADELPHIA (November 14) -- At halftime of the Temple men's basketball home opener

against Miami, Ohio on Sunday, November 21 (2:00 p.m. start time), three

new banners will be unveiled in the rafters in The Forum at The Apollo

of Temple. The Owls will honor the memory of the late Harry Litwack and

retire the jerseys of Mark Macon and Marilyn Stephens-Franklyn.

LITWACK's name will be lofted to the rafters in memory of Temple's coach

from 1952-73. He led the Owls to the 1969 NIT championship and third

place finishes in the 1956 and 1958 NCAA Tournaments. Temple's only

National Basketball Hall of Famer, "The Chief" passed away this summer

at the age of 91

MACON (1987-91) holds the all-time Temple record for points scored with

2,609. He led the Owls to the No. 1 ranking in 1987-88. He earned a host

of honors, including the 1989 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and

All-American awards, and was the 1987-88 national Freshman of the Year.

Macon wore No. 12.

STEPHENS-FRANKLYN is the all-time leading scorer and rebounder in Temple

women's basketball history. She scored 2,196 points and pulled down

1,516 rebounds in a career that spanned from 1981-84. Named a Kodak

All-American in 1984, she was the Big 5 Player of the Year twice and was

inducted into the Big 5 Hall of Fame in 1989. She wore No. 33.

BILL (THE OWL WITHOUT A VOWEL) MLKVY and GUY RODGERS are the only other

Temple basketball players to previously have their number retired. Mlkvy

led the nation in scoring in 1950-51, averaging 29.2 ppg, a Temple

record. Rodgers is the third highest scorer in Temple men's basketball

history with 1,767 points in only three seasons. He was picked as the

best player in Big 5 history by a public poll conducted by the

Philadelphia Daily News.
