OWLS CRUISE BY EA SPORTS, 99-81 IN FINAL EXHIBITION

11.14.01 | Men's Basketball

After suffering two tough losses up in Madison Square Garden, John Chaney's Temple Owls concluded their exhibition season with a 99-81 win over EA Sports. Lynn Greer led the Owls with 23 points in 29 minutes of action, while Alex Wesby chipped in with 20 points and freshman Nile Murry added 19. Sophomore Brian Polk added 14 of his 18 points in the second half.

The game stayed close throughout the first half with neither team being able to build any substantial lead until the Owls outscored the visitors, 14-5, down the stretch to take a 49-39 lead into halftime. Greer scored 18 first-half points to lead Temple, including nine straight midway through the first half. LaRon Cephas led EA Sports with 11 in the opening half.

The visitors came out and made a run at the beginning of the second half to pull to within four at 50-46 with 16:21 left. The Owls then went on a 9-0 run, fueled by Alex Wesby, who contributed seven points to extend the lead to 59-46 with 12:40 remaining. EA Sports never seriously threatened the remainder of the game as Temple went on a 25-15 run to take a commanding 91-69 lead with just 3:15 left in the game.

The Owls will now rest up for the next two weeks before taking on Charlotte (formally known as UNC-Charlotte) in their home opener on Thursday, November 29th at the Liacouras Center. It will be a night to remember, when Hall of Fame banners will be lifted to the rafters, honoring Temple's two Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame coaches, Harry Litwack and present coach, John Chaney in pre-game ceremonies. Tipoff for the Owls opener is at 7:00 pm.
