Dacons, Hairston Earn MVP Honors At Temple Basketball Banquet

Seniors Dion Dacons and Kamesha Hairston were named the Most Valuable Players of the Temple men's and women's basketball teams at the Owl Club Annual Awards Banquet held Thurday, April 5 at The Doubletree Hotel. Dacons, who led the men's team in rebounding (6.9 rpg.) and field goal percentage (.544), picked up three awards on the evening while Hairston, a First Round WNBA selection by the Connecticut Sun, earned three awards as well.

Dacons shared the Tim Claxton Award for loyalty, dedication and attitude to the University and community with sophomore guard Brian Shanahan. He also earned the Owl Club Academic Award. Hairston was the recipient of the Henry Sklar Award presented to the player who displays outstanding academic achievement, leadership, good citizenship and dedication. An Honorable Mention All-America selection, she also received the top rebounder award.

Junior walk-on Orlando Miller was presented with the Harry Litwack Award for sportsmanship, dedication, devotion and conduct on and off the court in the other men's award.

Sophomore Shenita Landry, who was named the Most Improved Player, the Hustle Award and Unsung Hero Award recipient, and senior Fatima Maddox, the Best Three-Point Shooter and Free Throw Shooter Award recipient, joined Hairston as multiple honorees on the women's side. Junior Ashley Morris was named the recipient of the team's Sixth Woman Award while junior Candice Borrows earned the Owl Club Academic Award.
