Senior Kimmi Hanshue
Field Hockey Falls to West Chester, 2-1
10.23.09 | Field Hockey
Senior Kimmi Hanshue scores Owls' lone goal
Box Score
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Senior Kimmi Hanshue scored her first career goal 6:04 into the first half, but it was not enough as the Temple field hockey team (5-11, 1-2 A-10) dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision on the road at West Chester (8-8, 3-1 A-10) Friday afternoon.
Coming off of a thrilling 2-1 double overtime victory over #10 Massachusetts last Sunday, the Owls were looking to string together consecutive conference wins. Instead, they found themselves on the short end of yet another close game.
Hanshue and her teammates wasted little time finding the back of the net. Fellow classmate Charise Young was able to find Hanshue alone on the goal line following a penalty corner to give the Owls an early 1-0 lead. For Young, the assist was her team-leading sixth of the year.
West Chester would respond right before halftime off of an unassisted goal from Melissa LeNoir. The Golden Rams would take the lead for good and set the final margin halfway through the second half. Alyssa Gallen took a pass from Alisha Moran and was able to beat Temple goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple to give her team a 2-1 lead.
The Owls refused to back down and were able to accumulate 10 shots and eight penalty corners in the second half alone. Unfortunately, their attempts came up just short as they dropped their second conference game of the season.
Temple returns to action on Sunday, October 25, when league rival La Salle travels to Geasey Field. Start time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
