#19/21 Men's Basketball To Take On Penn At The Palestra Wednesday

Dunphy to coach against his former player in Big 5 battle
Game Notes
PHILADELPHIA - It will be teacher meets pupil when #19/21 Temple travels to The Palestra for a Philadelphia Big 5 battle against Penn Wednesday night (7:00 p.m.). Always a difficult game for Owls' head coach Fran Dunphy, who patrolled the Penn sidelines for 17 season before taking the Temple job in 2006, it became even tougher emotionally as he will coach against one of his all-time great players, Jerome Allen, for the first time.
Allen, a two-time Ivy League Player of the Year (1993, 1994), played under Dunphy during Penn's Ivy-League record 48 straight league wins. He took over the reins of the Quaker program on December 14. Temple will be Allen's first home game as the Quakers' head coach.
Penn is 1-10 (0-1 Big 5) on the season, 1-3 under Allen, and broke a 10-game losing streak in its last game, an 82-71 win at UMBC on January 6. Senior guard Zack Rosen leads the Quakers with a 16.9 average while dishing a team-high 50 assists. Junior forward Jack Eggleston (12.9 ppg., 6.1 rpg.) and 6-4 senior guard Darren Smith (10.1 ppg.) also average double figures.
Temple (13-3, 1-0), fresh an 68-64 overtime win at Rhode Island Sunday, has won nine of its last 10 with the lone blemish at the hands of #3/3 Kansas. Senior Ryan Brooks, who scored eight of his 16 points in the extra frame Sunday, continues to lead the Owls with a 15.3 scoring average. Junior Lavoy Allen (13.4 ppg./10.4 rpg.), the reigning Big 5 Player of the Week, is averaging a double-double while sophomore Juan Fernandez (13.4 ppg.) tops the team in assists (54) and three-pointers.
The Owls lead the all-time series, 42-22, and Dunphy has beaten his former team, in two of the three meetings since his arrival at Temple.
