PHILADELPHIA
- Four Owls scored in double-figures as the Temple men's basketball team routed Akron, 82-47, Sunday afternoon at the Liacouras Center to extend its home winning streak to 12 games.  Junior center Micheal Eric matched his season high in the first half alone, finishing the contest with 16 points, five rebounds and four blocks.

The Owls, now own a 7-2 record, are on a four-game win streak and are 3-0 against Mid-American Conference opponents this season.  The Temple defense held Akron, now 4-3, to a season-low in points for an opponent (47) and shooting percentage (29.5%).  The Owls also matched their season-high in scoring as they posted the same final total they did against the Rockets (82), and topped their largest margin of victory on the season, winning today by 35 points.

Eric led the balanced scoring attack and was a constant presence in the paint going 7-12 from the floor.  Junior forward Scootie Randall added 12 points and seven rebounds and freshman Aaron Brown recorded a career-high 13 points (3-6, 2-4 3-ptr, 5-6 ft).  Junior guard Ramone Moore, fresh off of a 30-point performance against #9/10 Georgetown, was four-for-eight shooting, including two-for-two from three, for 10 points.  Sophomore foward Rahlir Jefferson led the Owls in rebounding, grabbing nine boards and contributing six points.

A fast pace of play was set from the opening tip, as the Zips were three-for-three on their first three possessions, including a trey from senior guard Steve McNees.  The Owls answered with three-of-four shooting to open the game, seeing four of the five starters - Lavoy Allen, Eric, Moore and Randall - net points as junior guard Juan Fernandez dished three of his game-high five assists during that stretch.

Eric continued to be the focal point of the Owls offense, sparking a dominant 32-7 run for the Owls. Temple took its first lead of the game at 15:40 on a feed from Allen to fellow big-man Eric, but the Zips quickly answered to tie the game back up on a floater from senior guard Darryl Roberts.  Eric recorded the Owls' next five points, converting a three-point play and adding another inside two.

The run continued on a lob from Fernandez to Allen, who slammed home the alley-oop.  Akron attempted to slow the Owls' scoring on a two from junior guard Brett McClanahan, but another Eric bucket, a three from Moore and a jumper by Randall at 10:19 saw Temple double-up on the visitors at 24-12.

McNees (11 pts, 3-8 3-ptr) drained a three to temporarily subdue the Owls' offense, who again worked the ball to Eric on the next possession.  The Nigeria native converted another old-fashioned three-point play to pad the Owls' lead and match his season-high with 14 points thus far.

Temple turned up the defense with some freshly inserted substitutes providing the energy.  Jefferson swiped Akron's Roberts, springing himself for a breakaway and dunking on the other end.  Also seeing his first action of the game, Brown picked Roberts' pocket and went coast-to-coast for an easy two for a 31-15 TU lead at 6:22.

The drought continued for the Zips, who scored their last bucket at the 8:06 mark.  Blocked shots by Eric and Jefferson led to another TU sub, sophomore guard T.J. DiLeo, slashing through the lane for a lay up and a 33-15 Temple lead.

After a good jumper by Randall, Brown got back into the action with a deep three and two successful free throws, besting his career-high with seven points in the first and sending the Owls into the break with a 40-15 lead.  The 15 points scored by Akron was the lowest total the Owls have held an opponent to in a half this season, having previously held Toledo (11/14/10) to 16 in the first stanza of that contest.

The Zips finally found cotton on their first possession of the second half, as freshman guard Alex Abreu (11 pts) drained a three less than thirty-seconds into the period.  The basket was part of a short 7-2 Akron run to start the second, but a jumper and a free throw from Fernandez and another two from Eric halted the effort.

Temple answered a 5-0 Akron run with seven consecutive points of their own, as Jefferson and Randall hit jumpers and Fernandez dialed in his first three of the game, making the score 54-27 with 12:34 to go.  Akron's Abreu answered with a three of his own, but the Owls countered with a 13-2 run.

A jumper from Moore at 11:36 started the run, followed by another fastbreak dunk from Jefferson.  Randall made a bucket to once again double up the Zips at 60-30, with Wyatt going two-for-two after that to pad the lead.  A lay up from Akron sophomore foward Quincy Diggs at 8:09 was only met by a three from Moore seconds later.  Moore was once again two-for-two from three-point land for the second-straight game.

Junior guard Jake Godino and Brown accounted for the Owls' final four points of the afternoon, with the final score ending 82-47.

Temple wraps up its three-game homestand at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, taking on another MAC opponent in Northern Illinois.  The call of the game can be heard on 1340 AM WHAT and viewed live over the internet on www.Owlsports.com.
