PHILADELPHIA
- Behind a 22-point effort from senior forward Lavoy Allen, Temple took down Northern Illinois, 84-74, on Saturday afternoon for its 13th-consecutive win in the Liacouras Center.  The Owls improve to 8-2 on the year, now having won their last five contests.

Allen recorded his sixth career 20-point game, his last coming nearly a year ago on January 6 against Saint Joseph's.  The Wooden and Naismith Award candidate also added seven rebounds and three assists.  It was also a career day for junior guard Ramone Moore, who dished six assists in the contest.  Backcourt and classmate Juan Fernandez tied his career mark in assists with seven.

Junior forward Micheal Eric's minutes were limited in the contest due to foul trouble, yet he still made his presence felt on the boards.  The Nigeria native grabbed a career high 12 rebounds in just 12 minutes of action.

The Huskies, now 3-5, were led by 27 points from senior guard Xavier Silas, who was held just below his nation leading season average of 28.3 points per game.  Junior forward Cameron Madlock led NIU with 10 rebounds.

After winning the opening tip, Temple began the contest with a 7-0 run.  Fernandez started things off with a jumper from the right side of the foul line, followed by a free throw from Allen, and a tip-in and a lay up from Eric.  Northern Illinois would go scoreless until a free throw by senior guard Jeremy Landers got the Huskies on the board at 16:11.

Moore got into the action by sinking a three to put the Owls up 10-2, but was quickly answered with a trey on the other end by Landers.  The Philadelphia native continued to push the action with a jumper on Temple's next possession, and then picked up a loose ball and found sophomore forward Rahlir Jefferson for a fast break dunk at 14:18 for a 14-5 Owls' lead.

The Owls continued to increase the pace of play, as Randall swiped a ball and worked the fast break with Moore who dunked over NIU's Aksel Bolin, drawing the foul and converting the ensuing free throw at 11:34.

Sophomore guard T.J. DiLeo had an immediate impact off the bench, draining a three to see the Owls double-up on the visitors at 22-11 with 10:55 to go in the first.  A pair of free throws from he and Allen saw Temple reach its largest lead of the half at 26-11 with 9:09 to play.

Northern Illinois attempted to make it close heading into half.  Silas tried to take control of the game with a three to cut the defecit to nine at 5:45, and answered a lay up from Allen at 4:58 with a jumper to keep the TU lead the same.  The back and forth action would continue, and the Huskies would come closest with 1:37 to play in the stanza, as junior forward Tim Toler nailed a three to make the score 37-29.  A nice inside move by Allen led to a slam for the big man, but a buzzer beating three by sophomore guard Tony Nixon put the first half score at 41-32.

Despite playing just four minutes in the period, Eric tied for the first half lead in rebounds with six.  Moore led all scorers in the stanza with 12 points, while Fernandez dished four assists.  Temple managed to keep the Huskies off balance with high pressure defense, capitalizing with 14 points off of 10 turnovers.

After empty possessions on both ends to start the second, Allen found a streaking Moore for a lay up to ignite the scoring.  After a miss by NIU, Fernandez lobbed a near full-court pass to Randall who dunked on the other end to put the Owls up 45-32.

Landers brought the Huskies back in it by scoring the first six points in a 9-2 run to bring the score closest yet at 47-41 with 15:32.  Allen would halt Northern Illinois' efforts however, driving a 7-3 Temple run with three inside buckets, capping the run with a foul shot on a converted three-point play.

Huskies' senior guard Michael Patton sunk a three to bring the Owls' lead back under 10, but a two from Jefferson set up by Fernandez' seventh assist of the game, and a pair of buckets from Allen extended the margin into double-digits once again, giving Temple a 58-46 lead with 11:11 to play.

The Owls' largest lead of the game came at 9:17, when a pair of free throws by Randall put Temple up 16 with the score 62-46.  NIU would not cut the lead below double-digits again until just over the two-minute mark, when a lay up by Silas brought the Huskies to within eight at 73-65.  Temple battled to maintain a solid lead for the final minute, and Northern Illinois would never come closer.

Temple travels to its final Mid-America Conference opponent on December 22, taking on Ohio at 7:00 p.m (1210 AM WPHT).
