ATHENS, OHIO -
Rahlir Jefferson (18) and Khalif Wyatt (14) scored career highs off the bench and Ramone Moore added 17 points to lift Temple to its sixth straight win, a 76-65 win over Ohio Wednesday night at the Convocation Center.  The Owls improved to 9-2 on the season and have now won 12 consecutive games against Mid-American Conference opponents.  Ohio falls to 6-6.

While the bench was contributing 32 points, senior forward Lavoy Allen was pulling down a season high 13 rebounds and junior guard Juan Fernandez set new career marks with nine assists and four steals.
The Owls shot an even 50 percent (30-60) from the field and a season-best 42.1 percent (8-19) from three-point range.  Temple's defense held Ohio, which came into the game averaging 7.8 treys per game, to 3-of-15 from beyond the arc.

The game was tightly-contested at the start as the Bobcats sat in a zone defense to try and negate the Owls inside game.  Then Wyatt came off to jump-start the Cherry and White.

The Norristown High product eclipsed his previous career-high of 10 points in the first half alone, hitting four three-pointers over the final nine minutes.  He drained three of his treys during a 12-2 run that gave the Owls a 38-27 lead with just over four minutes left in the period.  Temple would end up taking a 40-33 advantage into the locker room.

Khalif Wyatt was spectacular in the first half for us,” Temple head coach Fran Dunphy said.  “His four threes gave us a nice cushion that we obviously needed as we knew they were going to make a run at us.”

After the Owls started the second half the Bobcats made their run.  The defending MAC champions scored eight straight points, with the last bucket coming from D.J. Cooper (13 pts), to cut the Temple lead to five, 46-41.

That, however, would be the last point for Cooper, who scored a career-high 43 at St. Bonaventure in the team's last game and entered the contest averaging 20.4 points per game.

“I was pleased with how we defended Cooper in the second half,” Dunphy said.  “I thought we did a pretty good job in that regard. “

The Owls quickly built their lead back to double-digits courtesy of a 10-2 run.  Jefferson, who had 10 in the second half, scored four points and dished an assist during that stretch.

The Bobcats clawed away at the deficit, cutting it to six on two free throws by DeVaughn Washington (20 points).  Allen then drained a jumper from the top of the key and Jefferson, who also pulled down eight rebounds, followed with a basket to extend the margin back to 10.

Ohio would not get closer than nine the remainder of the contest.

Temple is now off until December 30 when the Owls travel to the Pavilion to take on city-rival #8/8 Villanova.
