Women's Basketball Set to Play UMass on Wednesday Despite Snowstorm

Game Notes vs. Massachusetts
PHILADELPHIA - Temple women's basketball is set to face Massachusetts on Wednesday night, and the game will be held as scheduled despite the coming snowstorm expected in Philadelphia. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in McGonigle Hall.
Temple is 7-1 in its last eight games, most recently earning a 55-34 win at La Salle on Feb. 6. At 6-2, the Owls are currently tied for fourth in the Atlantic 10 with Dayton, behind Xavier (8-0), Duquesne (7-1) and Charlotte (7-2).
Defense has been the key for Temple all season long, as the Owls have held their opponents to an average of 53.6 points per game which ranks 11th in NCAA Division I.
Sophomore Kristen McCarthy and junior Qwedia Wallace lead the Owls with 13.2 and 10.7 points per game, respectively. Senior Jasmine Stone leads the team in rebounds at 9.0 per game, good enough for fourth place in the A-10. Senior LaKeisha Eaddy (7.9 ppg, 3.6 apg) recently became the 17th player in the history of the program to score 1,000 career points, getting the mark in TU's loss to St. Bonaventure. Eaddy now ranks 16th all-time with 1,013 points.
Sophomore BJ Williams (7.1 ppg, 3.2 apg) started in seven of first eight A-10 games before sitting out at La Salle this past weekend with a calf injury. Williams is averaging 9.7 points per game and 5.1 assists per game in A-10 play. Junior Marli Bennett (5.7 ppg, 4.9 rpg) has started every game this season, and is the reigning Big 5 Player of the Week after averaging 11 points per game and eight rebounds per game in two wins last week.
SCOUTING UMASS
Massachusetts has yet to put more than two wins in a row together this season. The Minutewomen are 9-14 overall and 3-5 in the A-10. Last week, UMass lost at home to St. Bonaventure but rebounded with a 60-50 win against Fordham. Kristina Danella leads Massachusetts with 13.6 points per game along with 5.8 rebounds per game.
The team is fairly balanced offensively, with four other players averaging between 7.6 ppg and 9.8 ppg. Three-point shooting is a strength for UMass, who averages 6.3 treys per game compared to Temple's 4.6 per game.
SERIES RECORD
Temple is 27-19 all-time against Massachusetts, and the Owls have won eight of the last nine, but it was the Minutewomen who most recently claimed victory. Temple lost a 71-60 decision on the road in Amherst last year.
SHATTERING THE GLASS
The Owls aren't just crashing the glass, they are finishing each game with significantly more rebounds than their opponents. For the season, TU's rebounding margin of +6.6 ranks 25th in NCAA Division I. In A-10 play, Temple has a +13.3 rebound margin to rank second in the conference behind Xavier at +16.9. Over the last four games, TU has out-rebounded its opponents 165-83.
TU TAKES SECOND IN THE BIG 5
Villanova won the Big 5 title with a 4-0 record this season, while Temple claimed sole possession of second place at 3-1. It is the first time in five years that Temple did not win at least a share of the title.
HEIGHTENED SECURITY
Temple has held 17 of its 23 opponents this season to 56 points or fewer, and currently ranks 11th in NCAA Division I in scoring defense at 53.6 ppg.
Temple's win vs. Penn on Jan. 23 showcased one of its best defensive performances. Penn's 31 points were a season-low by a TU opponent, and rank as the second-lowest for any A-10 opponent this season.
TAKING IT AWAY
LaKeisha Eaddy tallied five steals at Saint Joseph's on Feb. 2, which moved her into fourth place all-time at Temple in career steals with 224. Eaddy doesn't have far to go to reach #1, currently Pam Balogh with 237.
CONSISTENT KRISTEN
Kristen McCarthy has been TU's most consistent performer on offense all season long. The sophomore, who has started all 23 games, is leading the team at 13.2 ppg and has scored in double figures in 10 of the last 11 contests.
DOUBLING UP
Senior Jasmine Stone has tallied seven double-doubles this season which ranks as the most on the team and is the fourth-most this season in the A-10. Most recently, Stone notched a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds in the Owls' loss to St. Bonaventure on Jan. 30.
HALFTIME INDICATION
First-half results have been a strong indicator for TU's success this season. The Owls are 15-1 when leading at halftime, and just 2-5 when trailing.
1,000 POINTS REACHED
LaKeisha Eaddy scored the 1,000 point of her career against St. Bonaventure on Jan. 30. Her 1,013 career points rank 16th all-time at Temple.
BRACKETOLOGY
ESPN's Charlie Creme has TU projected to earn an NCAA berth as a #10 seed, according to his latest bracket posted on Feb. 1.
ONLY LOSING TO THE BEST
Three of TU's losses this season are to teams currently ranked in the top 10- Xavier (6), Duke (8) and Florida State (10). Hartford, another loss, is the second team receiving votes in the AP Poll.
