PHILADELPHIA – The Temple baseball team will compete at home for the first time this season, when they host Marist, Niaraga and Pittsburgh at Skip Wilson Field on March 19-21. The games on Saturday and Sunday will be offered through live streaming on Owlsports All-Access and live stats.
The Owls (1-11) are looking to get back on track after some challenging pre-conference matchups. Temple plays host to three non-conference foes this weekend, with one final game against Monmouth next week before Atlantic 10 play begins.
Hitting out of the two-spot, senior Tony Jusino has provided the Cherry and White with a constant spark at the top of the lineup. The San Diego, Calif. native (Rancho Bernardo) is riding a nine-game hit streak, hitting safely in 10 of TU's first 12 games.
Jusino leads the Owls in batting average (.471), hits (24), slugging (.549), and on-base percentage (.474). Junior Rafael Cordero (.295, 2 HR) has been supplying Temple with some offense, tying with Jusino with a team-leading four doubles. Newcomer Jean Carlos Diaz proved his worth early on, hitting .297 with two doubles and five RBI.
Taking the hill to start Friday against Marist (Mar. 19, 3:00 p.m.) will be redshirt-senior Matt Mongiardini. The Toms River East product had a quality start in his last outing, throwing seven strong only allowing three runs.
Saturday junior Ben White will be making his second appearance of the week against Niagara (Mar. 20, 1:00 p.m.), after throwing one inning in a midweek matchup with Penn. Redshirt-sophomore Steve Nikorak closes out the weekend against Pittsburgh (Mar. 21, 1:00 p.m.).
