Field Hockey’s Charise Young Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team

PHILADELPHIA – Standout field hockey student-athlete Charise Young has been named to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large First Team. Young, a senior, adds this prestigious honor to numerous others she has earned in her career and particularly in 2009-10.
Young has a 3.97 grade-point-average as a secondary/social studies education major, and is set to graduate after a semester of student-teaching this fall.
She is one of 10 first-team honorees in District 2, and will now have her name on the ballot for Academic All-America honors. The women's at-large ballot includes student-athletes from 13 different NCAA sports.
“I am so proud of Charise,” said head field hockey coach Amanda Janney. “She has worked so hard on and off the field for the last four years and I'm very thankful that she is getting so much deserved recognition.”
Selected as the 2009-10 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year for the second straight year as a senior, Young also earned A-10 First Team honors for a second time. At Temple's recent Breakfast of Champions, Young was named TU's Female Student-Athlete of the Year.
After a senior season that saw Young lead the team and tie for first in the A-10 with 11 assists, she was named to the 2009 Longstretch/NFHCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team for the second-straight year.
Young, a Harleysville, Pa., native, started all 81 games during her career with the Owls. During that span she notched 18 goals and a team-leading 26 assists. This season Young helped lead TU to its seventh consecutive appearance in the Atlantic 10 Tournament and first showing in the championship game since 2003.
