PHILADELPHIA – Six current Temple field hockey student-athletes have been training with USA High Performance Center teams since the beginning of May, and will compete in the USFHA National Championships June 20-26 in Virginia Beach, Va.

Two Owls have been training with Senior High Performance Travel Squads- senior Sarah Dalrymple with New Jersey and junior Kaylee Keener with Pennsylvania. Keener has been selected to play with the California Senior team. Juniors Bridget Settles and Becca Keener along with sophomore Katie Briglia are on the New Jersey Junior High Peformance Center Travel Squad, and sophomore Taylor Musser has been training with the Pennsylvania Junior HPC travel squad.

The Women's National Championship consists of eight Senior HPC teams and four Junior HPC teams competing in two separate tournaments in conjunction with the National Futures Championship. The round-robin tournament will feature the top athletes from USA Field Hockey's regional High Performance Centers including three current National Team players assigned to each team. Athletes competing in the tournament have the opportunity for selection to the U.S. National Squad.

Temple head coach Amanda Janney is an assistant coach and the administrator for the New Jersey Senior HPC team and TU assistant coach Beth Riley is an assistant coach for the New Jersey Junior HPC team. Both will be in attendance in Virginia Beach but are not on the official coaching rosters.

“This is a huge accomplishment for our program to have so many current players make their HPC travel squad and represent Temple at the Women's National Championship,” said Janney. “Our players are committing themselves to training year-round at the highest level available. I know this game experience at the National Training Center will be very beneficial for each one of them.”

“I am excited to watch Sarah and Kaylee compete against and with the current National Team players. They are both very competitive and intense players, and I know they will play well at this elite level.

The Junior Women's National Championship is a new addition this year and I am pleased that the U.S. National Team coaches are now giving our college players this opportunity to be seen and to compete with the other top Under 21 players in their regions.

“I know that Becca, Bridget, Katie, and Taylor have already made an impact on their Junior teams and I predict that they will all be major play-makers on those teams.”

The Owls have another representative at the USFHA National Futures Championship, as incoming freshman Lizzy Millen will play for the U19 Team Lancaster. The tournament is the elite high school event and only the top players in each state are selected to attend.

“Lizzy has made the NFC tournament for the last three years,” said Janney, “and I am pleased that she is now going as a Temple Owl. She is a talented and aggressive goalkeeper and I'm looking forward to seeing her dominate against high school players one more time.”
