Dalrymple updates from Chula Vista where she's training with the U.S. National Team
CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Temple field hockey senior Sarah Dalrymple is currently staying at the United States Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., with the U.S. National Team. Dalrymple will be sending updates to owlsports.com as she experiences the life of an elite athlete.
Hello Everyone!
Greetings from the West Coast!! After approximately 9 total hours of travel on Monday I arrived in San Diego, which is just outside of the US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA. My roommates Katie Evans, Amy Tran, Kelly Driscoll, and I are staying in San Diego, about 25 minutes north of Chula. Despite my excitement, I didn't get to see the Training Center until the morning after I arrived. On the ride to my first training session I was very anxious to see what the US Olympic Training Center was like, and when we turned on to Olympic Parkway the anticipation grew! The view is absolutely gorgeous, fitting because chula vista means "beautiful view" in Spanish. The backdrop is filled with mountains, and the training facilities are amazing (as many of you would expect, I'm sure). The Olympic rings are EVERYWHERE, even on the plates in the cafeteria!
A majority of the National team is here training for an upcoming tour to England and Spain. My roommate Kelly and I are the two goalkeepers on the developmental squad and we were both invited to come train with the National team during their preparation for the tour. This opportunity is one for which I am extremely thankful, and everyone on the team has been incredibly nice and welcoming!
Practice has been going well. The pace of the game and speed of the ball is requiring a bit of an adjustment, but I think that I will get used to it with time. Every team has that player or two with a pretty amazing shot that you need to look out for. Now, imagine being the goalkeeper in a shooting drill where every person is that player! It's quite challenging, but so much fun at the same time!
On Wednesday I felt my very first earthquake! Luckily, it wasn't large enough to cause damage. I was at dinner in the Training Center cafeteria and it felt like someone was stomping by my table with lead feet. I felt a wave of motion sickness come over me, which was strange. Even so, I dismissed it as nothing until my teammates asked if I felt it as well.
Well, that's all I have for now! I hope everyone is staying cool despite the heat wave over there on the east coast! I don't think it's been above 75-80 degrees since I've been here, and I've had to wear a long sleeve shirt or sweatshirt everyday. Have a great weekend and don't forget to check back for updates later on this week!!
