Field Hockey Picked to Finish Third in Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll
8.6.10 | Field Hockey
Massachusetts is in search of its league-leading 12th A-10 title and third since 2007. The Minutewomen fell to Richmond in overtime of last year's semifinals. Returning for Massachusetts is junior midfielder Makaela Potts, the 2009 defensive player of the year, and junior goalie Alesha Widdall, a first team all-conference selection.
Finishing just behind Massachusetts in the poll, Richmond looks to defend its 2009 title. The Spiders graduated a group of key seniors but are returning first team all-conference selection Katelin Peterson, a junior forward.
Temple, runners-up in 2009, was tabbed to finish third, while Lock Haven is expected to finish fourth in its inaugural season in the Atlantic 10. Saint Joseph's is slotted in fifth, followed by La Salle, West Chester and Saint Louis.
The Owls were 9-12 overall a year ago, and 4-2 in the A-10. Temple made a late-season run to not only earn a spot in the four-team championship, but then advance to the title game. Head Coach Amanda Janney is returning for her sixth season with the Owls.
The four-team A-10 Field Hockey Championship will be held Nov. 5-6 at Temple's Geasey Field.
