Field Hockey Set to Face Delaware and Penn State at Home This Weekend

Owls take on Blue Hens at 3:30 p.m. Friday; Nittany Lions at 2:00 p.m. Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team returns to action Friday, Sept. 17 at 3:30 p.m. in a home game against the Delaware Blue Hens. Temple, 4-1 overall, faces Delaware (2-3) in the second of five straight home games.  On Saturday at 2:00 p.m., the Owls will take on Penn State. 

On Sept. 10, Temple suffered a a 2-1 double-overtime defeat at the hands of Lafayette. The Owls started slow offensively and found themselves on the defensive for much of the first half. The team came together in the second half, out-shooting Lafayette 8-6. Bridget Settles scored on her own rebounded shot and save early in the second half for the lone Temple goal.

All-time, the Owls' are 10-16-1 against the Blue Hens with their last regular season win coming at Delaware in 2006 by a score of 2-1.

The Owls' leading scorer is Settles with 12 points in five games. Settles' five goals lead the team while Katie Briglia, Taryn Nichols, Molly Doyle and Lauren Hunt all are tied for second on the team with two goals each.

Sarah Dalrymple has been the Owls' lone goalkeeper this season making 10 saves while recording three shutouts on the year. Dalrymple ranks eighth in the nation in goals against with a 0.76 average.

Coming into Friday's matchup with the Owls, the Delaware field hockey team is looking to get back to the .500 mark as they hold a 2-3 record.  

In its last time out, Delaware fell 3-1 to Monmouth. Freshman Heather Hartman scored the lone goal for the Blue Hens. Senior Michelle Drummonds is Delaware's leading scorer as she has tallied 10 points through five games. Melissa LeNoir is second on the team with two goals and five points.

Carol Miller is in her 18th year as head coach of the Blue Hens. A graduate of Delaware in 1982, she led the Blue Hens to their second CAA title in school history and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2009. For her efforts following the 2009 season, Miller was selected as the womensfieldhockey.com NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year.

Heading into Saturday's matchup with the Owls, the Penn State field hockey team holds a 2-3 record. The Nittany Lions play Lafayette Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Jessica Longstreth is the Nittany Lions' leading scorer as she has registered seven points through five games. Kelsey Amy and Lauren Purvis are tied for second on the team in scoring with four points each.

Head coach Charlene Morett begins her 24th season as head coach of Penn State. In 2008, Morett led the Nittany Lions to the Big Ten Regular Season Title, their first conference championship since 2005 and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Morett is the longest-tenured coach in the Big Ten and seventh-longest tenured coach at a single school in Division I field hockey.
