Owls drop fifth straight game, face Rider September 29 at 4:00 PM
PHILADELPHIA – No. 15 American University received three second-half goals to lift the No. 15 Eagles to a 4-2 victory over the Owls Saturday afternoon at Geasey Field. American improved to 6-2 while Temple dropped their fifth straight game to fall to 4-5 on the season.
American took a 1-0 lead into halftime as Alex McMackin scored off of a Shay Smith pass for the early advantage. The Cherry and White responded on a penalty corner just over three minutes into the second half as Carissa Young set up Bridget Settles for her eighth goal of the season.
American broke the tie with two goals in three minutes by Christine Fingerhuth and Lotte van de Mierop. The Owls clawed to within one on a Taryn Nichols goal but American put the game away with just over 10 minutes to play as Gina Hofmann scored off of a penalty corner.
The Owls did not record a shot in the first half as American outshot Temple 4-0. The Eagles kept Temple on the defensive end for most of the second half as they outshot Temple 8-3.
Temple goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple made six saves on 12 shots. The nationally ranked American offense proved to be too much to handle for the Owls.
The Cherry and White return to the field September 29 at 4:00 p.m. as they travel to Rider University.
