Men's Basketball Travels To Xavier for Saturday Showdown

1.20.11 | Men's Basketball

Game to be televised live on ESPN2 at 3:00 p.m.

Game Notes

CINCINNATI, OHIO -
After a win over Big 5 rival Penn, Temple looks to get back on track in Atlantic 10 play as the Owls take on conference unbeaten Xavier at the Cintas Center for a nationally televised contest on Saturday afternoon (3:00 p.m./ESPN2/1210 AM WPHT). Temple (13-4, 3-1 A-10) has won three out of the last four meetings with the Musketeers (12-5, 4-0), including a nail-biting 77-72 victory at the Liacouras Center last year.

The Owls looked to be out to a hot start in league play, winning their first three A-10 contests
before a road loss at Duquesne. Head coach Fran Dunphy has had much success coaching in conference games, with his squads owning a 39-13 league record since the 2008-09 campaign.

Temple's scoring output has come from a variety of sources this season, mostly recently from sophomore Khalif Wyatt. Wyatt became the seventh different player to lead Temple in scoring by putting up a career-high 27 points in the Owls' 73-56 victory over the Quakers. Junior Juan Fernandez, making his first start back from injury against Penn, is averaging 10.7 ppg and leads the team in assists (56). Junior Ramone Moore leads the team with a 15.2 scoring average and senior Lavoy Allen (10.6 ppg.) tops the team in rebounding (6.2 rpg).

Defense continues to be key for Temple's success, as the Owls are holding opponents to conference-lows of 59.4 ppg and 39.2 shooting percentage.

Xavier (12-3, 4-0 A-10), under the direction of second year head coach Chris Mack, is led by Cousy Award finalist junior Tu Holloway. Holloway, who tops the Musketeers and ranks second in the A-10 in scoring (20.4 ppg) and assists (90), chipped in 22 points to lift Xavier to its most recent win - a 79-65 victory over St. Bonaventure. Senior Jamel McLean (9.0 rpg) and junior Kenny Frease (7.1 rpg) have been handling the bulk of the rebounding for the Musketeers.

Temple holds a slight 12-9 advantage in the all-time series and is looking for its first win in the Cintas Center under Dunphy.
