1.28.11 | Men's Basketball
Game to be televised on ESPNU
Game Notes
PHILADELPHIA - Temple makes its first trip to the Palestra this season as the Owls (14-5, 4-2 A-10) take on Atlantic 10 and Big 5 rival Saint Joseph's (5-15, 0-6 A-10) in front of a nationally televised audience on Saturday (11:00 a.m./ESPNU). The Owls have won five of their last seven games, all of which have been in conference play.
The Owls, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Fran Dunphy, bounced back from a tough loss at Xavier with a 76-67 win over Charlotte at the Liacouras Center on Wednesday night. For the second time this year, sophomore Khalif Wyatt (8.8 ppg) led the Owls in scoring with 17 points. Wyatt, starting in place of Juan Fernandez, was one of four Temple players to score in double figures in the contest. Fernandez (10.4 ppg, 3.8 apg) sat out Wednesday's game to rest a bruised left knee and his status is day-to-day.
Junior Ramone Moore (15.0 ppg) continues to pace the Owls' attack and has scored in double figures in 14 straight games and 17 overall. Senior Lavoy Allen, who recorded his third double-double of the season against the 49ers, leads the team in rebounding (6.3 rpg) and is just 18 caroms shy of 1,000 for his career. Junior Scootie Randall has steadily increased his scoring average (10.1 ppg), and has tallied double figures in 11 games this season.
Saint Joseph's, under the direction of 16th-year head coach Phil Martelli, is still in search of its first conference win of the season. The Hawks are led by two double-figure scorers in junior Carl Jones (17.9 ppg) and freshman Langston Galloway (11.3 ppg), with Galloway supporting the team in rebounding (5.9 rpg).
Temple has won the last seven meetings against its school rival, the Hawks, with the most recent coming in a thrilling 75-67 overtime victory at Saint Joseph's last year.
