Field Hockey Loses on a Penalty Stroke at Lock Haven in Regular Season Finale

PHILADELPHIA - With a penalty stroke goal in the 43rd minute, Lock Haven took a 2-1 lead and held it for the remainder as Temple field hockey lost in its regular season finale against the Eagles. Temple (8-12, 4-2) will now await its seed in next weekend's Atlantic 10 Tournament at Saint Joseph's, while Lock Haven (10-10, 3-3) will likely just miss out on a berth despite tying La Salle for fourth place.
The game was fairly even on the stat sheet, with Temple edging Lock Haven 10-8 in overall shots. The Owls had more opportunites for penalty corners, 9-5, but was only able to convert a goal after one of those early in the second half.
Lock Haven struck first in in the 21st minute when Kelly Harsh scored on a corner with assists from Najia Hasan and Leslie Ahern. Temple had a corner chance near the end of the first half, but failed to get a clean shot off.
Just three minutes in the second half, Katie Briglia took a hard shot that was re-directed in the goal at the near post by Carissa Young to tie the game at 1-1.
The tie stood for just four minutes, as a yellow card on Temple led to a stroke opportunity for Lock Haven's Megan Evans, which she scored on for the game-winner.
Lindsay Staufenberg made four saves in goal for the Eagles, while Lizzy Millen made three for the Owls.
