Young joins Head Coach Amanda Janney’s staff for the 2011 season

PHILADELPHIA – After one season away from the sidelines at Temple field hockey games, Charise Young will be back with the Owls as an assistant coach for seventh-year head coach Amanda Janney. Young graduated from Temple in 2010 with a secondary/social studies education degree and nearly a 4.0 grade-point-average.

“Charise is going to be a terrific addition to our coaching staff,” said Janney. “She is extremely talented with coaching the finer details of skills and strategy, and I know that her passion for the game will be contagious for our players. She understands the demands of being a student-athlete and she knows what it takes to be successful in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Young earned numerous honors in her career as an Owl, particularly as a senior in 2009. She was a two-time Atlantic 10 First Team selection and was the 2008-09 and 2009-10 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year. As a senior, Young was named TU's Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

“I'm really excited to be back with the program that helped develop me as a player and as a person,” said Young. “I'm looking forward to using my love of the sport to further the success of Temple field hockey.”

An ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large First Team selection as a senior, Young led the team and tied for first in the A-10 with 11 assists. She was named to the 2009 Longstretch/NFHCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team for the second-straight year.

Young, a Harleysville, Pa., native, started all 81 games during her career with the Owls. During that span she notched 18 goals and a team-leading 26 assists. As a senior, Young helped lead Temple to its seventh consecutive appearance in the Atlantic 10 Tournament and first showing in the championship game since 2003. Young's sister, Carissa, will be a senior on the team in 2011.

“Charise is a dedicated alumnae of Temple,” said Janney, “and I feel privileged that we are able to provide her with this opportunity to continue to give back to the Temple community and our Athletic Department.”
