Owls post most run in single game since 1960

Box Score

DURHAM, N.C.
- In a complete offensive domination, the Temple baseball team (2-0) cruised past North Carolina Central (0-2), 30-10, in the second game of the Owls' three game series at Durham Athletic Park.  Redshirt-junior Steve Nikorak led the Owls going four-for-seven with six RBI, while junior Brant Norlander went three innings in his Temple debut.

Norlander gave up just one run in his first start as an Owl, striking out five over 3.2 innings of work.  The Belmont, Calif., native was relieved by junior Jimmy Devine, who threw 2.1 scoreless innings striking out four to earn the win.

Four freshman combined to close the game out for the Owls.  Ryan Davis faced seven batters in 0.2 innings of work, being relieved by Zach White who fanned one over 1.1 innings.  Phil Gianakos took the final inning and allowed just one run in that time.

Nikorak powered a high output Temple offense that posted 33 hits on the game, personally collecting two home runs, a single and a double.  The Stroudsburg, Pa., native drove in a game-high six runs, while seniors Ryan Ferguson and Ben Flanary, and junior Jabair Khan each drove in four.

North Carolina held a 1-0 lead after one inning of play until the Owls' bats came to life in the second and third innings, putting up 12 runs over the span.  Temple posted three runs in the second thanks to an RBI-single from senior Byron McKoy and a error on a ball hit by senior Adrian Perez to left field.

The third inning blew the game wide open for the Owls.  Nikorak posted a double and a home run in his two at bats in the frame as Temple batted around.  Flanary brought home two runs in the inning on a double to right, while Ferguson ripped a double that cleared the bases scoring three.  Nikorak plated two on his home run to left as the final runs of the third.

Norlander held the Eagles scoreless in the second, but gave up three in the third and found himself in trouble in the fourth.  Devine came on for Norland with two down in the frame and secured the final out of the inning on a strikeout.

The Owls offense continued to fire on all cylinders, putting up six runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth, while adding two in the seventh and five in the eighth.  Junior Cameron Green ripped his first homer as a member of the Cherry and White in the fifth inning, a two run shot.

For Temple, it was the most runs scored in a game since 1960.  The Owls had previously beaten Xavier 29-12 on March 24, 2001 at Skip Wilson Field.

The series wraps tomorrow with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m.
