PHILADELPHIA
- Led by a 22-point effort from junior guard Ramone Moore, #24/rv Temple battled past Fordham, 77-66, Wednesday night for their its fifth straight win and 19th consecutive in the Liacouras Center.  The Owls, now 18-5, 8-2 in Atlantic 10 play, held the lead for nearly the entire contest and staved off a second half comeback attempt by the Rams.

Moore (7-17, 6-6 ft) reached double-figures midway through the first half, marking the 20th time this season he has scored double-digit points.  A trio of juniors also netted in double-figures for the Owls, as forward Scootie Randall and center Micheal Eric chipped in 12, and guard Juan Fernandez added 10 points.  Sophomore forward Rahlir Jefferson added 10 points to give TU five double-figure scorers.

Senior Lavoy Allen pulled down a season and game-high 14 rebounds in the contest, but left the game late in the second half with a sprained left ankle.  Allen passed Jay Norman (1,017 rebounds, 1955-58) to move into third place on the Temple all-time rebound list.  His status is day-to-day.

Randall tied his career-high with nine rebounds while Eric and Jefferson gathered in seven boards to help the Owls to a 49-36 edge on the glass.

Fordham (6-16, 0-10 A-10) was led by a game-high 27 points from sophomore forward Chris Gaston, who was held just under a double-double with nine rebounds.  Junior forward Kervin Bristol led the Rams with 11 rebounds.

Temple attempted to pull away from the Rams in the early going of the first half, but would only build a six point lead at most until a 28-7 run gave the Owls their largest lead of the contest, 37-12, with 7:27 to play.

Moore was the spark in that stretch, draining a three followed by a layup to set off 16 unanswered points by Temple.  The Owls would hold Fordham scoreless for over four minutes during the stretch (11:08-7:02), until a trio of free throws from senior guard Brenton Butler broke the drought for the Rams.

A jumper from Gaston extended a 5-0 run for Fordham, one that would only be answered by buckets from Eric and Jefferson to give the Owls a 23-point lead, 40-17, with 4:55 to play.

Fordham attempted to climb back into the game with a 10-2 run to cut the Owls' advantage to 42-27 with just under two minutes to play.  A pair of threes from sophomore guard Rayner Moquete aided the Rams' efforts, but Temple would still go into the locker room with a double-digit lead, 47-29.

The Rams opened up a 13-3 run to start the second half, cutting the Owls' lead to under 10 points with 15:38 to play.  Gaston registered nine of the 13 points in the run, ending the efforts with a strong drive to make the score 50-42.

The Owls struggled to slow the energized Rams, who answered a free throw by Jefferson and a jumper by Moore with a 7-0 run to come within three points at 53-50 at 13:17.  Frazier had the hot hand in the stretch for Fordham, burying back-to-back threes.

A cold streak would hamper Temple's scoring efforts, as the Owls went 0-11 from 14:11 to 10:48, when a layup by Randall helped shift the momentum to the home team.  A jumper from Moore and a dunk on a fastbreak by Jefferson increased the Temple cushion to 59-50 at 8:35.

Temple built back its double-digit lead with a 9-3 run to go up 69-57 with 3:47 remaining.  Allen started the run with a layup, and after a three from Fordham's Alberto Estwick, Randall and Fernandez connected for treys.

Despite Fordham's best attempts, the Owls would not trail the remainder of the contest.  Temple, which shot 42.9% from the field in the first, only hit for 24.2% in the second to shoot 33.8% on the game.

The Owls next travel to Dayton on Saturday, February 12 for a nationally-televised game on ESPNU (1:00 p.m.).  The game will also be broadcast on 1210 AM WPHT.
