Game Notes
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - It will be a rematch of last year's A-10 Championship game in the semifinals as #2-seed and #24/25 Temple (25-6) takes on #3-seed Richmond Saturday afternoon (3:30 p.m./CBS CS/1210 AM WPHT). The Owls defeated La Salle, 96-76, in the quarterfinals while the Spiders advanced with a 55-45 win over Rhode Island.
Temple defeated Richmond, 73-53, at the Liacouras Center on Feb. 17 in the regular season meeting. It was the last time junior forward Scootie Randall was on the court for the Owls. Randall, who scored 10 points in the contest, injured his right foot early in the second half. He is questionable for today's game.
The Owls have won five of six since that meeting with the lone loss coming at then #1/1 Duke (78-61, Feb. 23). Junior guard Ramone Moore, who scored a game-high 23 points in the team's quarterfinal win, continues to pace the Owls with a 15.0 scoring average. Senior forward Lavoy Allen (11.8 ppg., 8.4 rpg.) posted his fifth straight double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds against La Salle and in the process set a new A-10 Championship mark with his seventh double-figure rebound game.
Junior guard Juan Fernandez (10.8 ppg.), who scored 19 points Friday, also averages double figures while leading the team in assists (3.9 apg.) while sophomore guard Khalif Wyatt (9.8 ppg.) showed why he is the A-10 Sixth Man of the Year with 20 points off the bench. Freshman Aaron Brown (3.2 ppg.), making his sixth start, reached double figures for the second time in three games with 14 points against La Salle.
Richmond has been even hotter than Temple since its loss to the owls, running off five straight wins to advance to the semis. The Spiders are the only A-10 team with two first team all-conference performers in senior forward Justin Harper (17.8 ppg.) and senior guard Kevin Anderson (16.1 ppg.). Senior forward Dan Geriot also scores in double figures for the Spiders with a 10.2 average.
