Gianakos, Batchelor and Visnic combine to shutout Eagles

Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md.
- A trio of Owls' pitchers combined to keep Coppin State from scoring while a pair of three-hit days from senior Ryan Ferguson and sophomore Daniel Dragos helped propel the Temple baseball team to a 5-0 win on Wednesday afternoon.  Temple improves to 17-16 overall on the year, while Coppin State falls to 4-29.

Freshman Phil Gianakos got the start for Temple and tossed a scoreless first and second inning, allowing just two hits and striking out three.  Classmate Zach Batchelor earned the win throwin five-straight scoreless innings and giving up a pair of hits, while redshirt-sophomore Steve Visnic tossed the final two frames allowing one hit.

Ferguson and Dragos led the Owls offense each going three-for-five with a run scored.  Senior Adrian Perez also added two hits and scored once, with redshirt-junior Steve Nikorak, sophomore Henry Knabe, junior Jabair Khan and senior Ben Flanary each drove in a run.

Junior Andrea Kiessling took the loss for Coppin State and dealt with six misplays by his defense.  The Owls ran up nine hits on Kiessling, who was replaced by senior Craig Richmond (2.0 IP, 2 ER).

The Owls picked up a run in the first, taking advantage of an error at second on a grounder by Nikorak that allowed Ferguson to plate.  Dragos led off the second with a single, moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by Khan and scoring on a single by Flanary.

Temple added one more in the seventh, with Perez ripping a one-out single into left.  He would move over on a base hit into right by Ferguson, scoring on another single by Nikorak.  Two more insurance runs in the ninth from the Owls would move the final score to 5-0.  Knabe and Khan each had RBI-singles in the frame, with freshman Bobby Heitzman and junior Foster Dunigan scoring.

Up next, the Owls have their final non-conference road weekend of the year, traveling to the University of New Orleans for four games beginning Friday, April 22.
