Baseball Travels To Big Easy For Final Non-Conference Road Weekend

Owls take on Privateers in a four-game series beginning Friday
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple baseball team travels to unfamiliar territories as the Owls take on the University of New Orleans for a four-game series in the Big Easy beginning Friday, April 22. Temple, now 17-16 overall with a win over Coppin State on Wednesday, is playing in its final non-conference road weekend of the season. Live stats will be offered for the entire weekend.
The Owls shutout Coppin State 5-0 on Wednesday behind a pair of three-hit days from senior Ryan Ferguson and sophomore Daniel Dragos, and the combined pitching efforts of freshmen Phil Gianakos and Zach Batchelor, and redshirt-sophomore Steve Visnic.
Ferguson leads Temple batting .380 (54-142, 10 2B) with a team-high eight homers and 39 RBI. He is tied for second on the club lead in hits with senior Byron McKoy (54-147, 11 2B), who recently tied the Temple all-time hit mark now owning 234 for his career. McKoy was also named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week this week. Senior Adrian Perez has a hold on the team lead in hits and doubles, batting .355 (55-155, 13 2B).
On the hill, senior Ben White (3-6, 5.55 ERA, 55 K) gets the nod for Temple in game one, facing UNO's Zach Kelt (1-7, 8.10 ERA). In game two, junior Brant Norlander (3-2, 4.99 ERA, 40 K) goes against Tyler Sanders (1-8, 9.25 ERA). For the second part of Saturday's doubleheader, junior Tyler Horst (0-0, 6.27 ERA) starts for the Owls, with Nolan Church (0-1, 7.36 ERA) stepping out for the Privateers. In the series finale, redshirt-junior Steve Nikorak (3-4, 7.98 ERA) starts for TU, with Scott Stonestreet wrapping things up for UNO.

The Privateers (3-33) are led by Carner Wheeless at the dish, a .264 (32-121) hitter on the year. Beau Bordeaux backs his efforts batting .231 on 28-121.
