Mahoney Wins Leopard Invite; Men's XC Earns Third Place Finish

LAFAYETTE, Pa. –Taking the slopes for one final time before hosting the Atlantic 10 Championships in two weeks, redshirt senior Travis Mahoney won his first meet title since returning to cross country on Saturday morning at the Leopard Invitational held by Lafayette College. For the second straight meet, Mahoney was Temple's top finisher, helping to pace the Owls to a third place finish with his time of 24:55. The native of Old Bridge, N.J. was closely followed by sophomore Cullen Davis, who placed fourth overall with a time of 25:17.

“Before the meet, I told the guys that I wanted both teams to get out front and be assertive, ” assistant coach Adam Bray said. “The men's team raced really well, really asserted themselves, and for the most part followed the race plan.”

Junior Will Kellar also had a solid finish time for the Owls, as he placed 15th among all runners in the meet. Overall, Temple placed two men in the Top 4 and three in the Top 15.

Temple will have its marquee meet of the year on Oct. 27 when it returns to action and hosts the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championships on the course at Belmont Plateau at West Fairmount Park.
