TEMPLE NOTES...
Temple is 10-6 overall and has won four straight, including going a perfect 3-0 in the Atlantic 10 so far. The Owls have won eight of their last nine games, and currently stand at 23rd in the NCAA Division I Field Hockey RPI.
Last weekend saw the Owls come out on top in a pair of close games. Temple earned a 2-1 win at La Salle on Oct. 12 and returned home two days later to get a 4-3 overtime win against Lock Haven. Sophomore Amber Youtz was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Player of the Week after recording three goals and two assists for the week, including the game-winning goal in both contests.
Youtz leads Temple with 18 goals and nine assists for 45 total points this season. In back-to-back wins over Colgate and Bucknell, Youtz recorded a hat trick in each and became the first player to achieve that feat since Temple Athletics Hall-of-Famer Jane Catanzaro in 1990.
Freshman Alyssa Delp is second on the team in goals with eight, and five other players have scored multiple goals for Temple. Sophomore Nicole Kroener has six goals along with seven assists, while junior Lauren Hunt has seven goals to go with four assists. Senior Katie Briglia has four goals and ranks second on the team with eight assists. Goalkeeper Lizzy Millen has started every game for the Owls, and made a career-high 12 saves against Penn State.
PLAY 4 THE CURE...
The Play 4 the Cure movement was created by Mystx Field Hockey Club founder, director, and head coach Tina Reinprecht. Tina's longtime desire was to create an indoor field hockey benefit tournament for breast cancer research. A tournament home was found for the event at the SportsPlex in Feastervile, PA in 2006. The benefit was dedicated to mothers of players in the Mystx FH Club who fought the fight against breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research and awareness is the beneficiary of the event and in the first two years they have contributed over $11,000.00 towards the Philadelphia Affiliate of the SGK for the Cure.
TOP 25 IN RPI...
In the latest NCAA Division I Field Hockey Rating Percentage Index (RPI), released Oct. 16, Temple ranks 23rd among all teams. Four teams ranked in the top 25 nationally are listed below the Owls in the RPI. The RPI ranks teams in terms of wins, losses and strength of schedule. Four of Temple's six losses came against nationally-ranked teams, including two by just a goal. The Owls have one win over a nationally-ranked opponent, having defeated #15 Drexel 5-1 on Sept. 16.
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION...
With 49 goals so far this season, Temple has already surpassed its 2011 scoring total by 12 goals. The Owls lead all teams in the Atlantic 10 in total goals, and they rank second in total assists with 33. Among all teams in NCAA Division I, Temple ranks 13th in goals per game (3.06) and 15th in points per game (8.19).
SOPHOMORE SENSATION...
Sophomore Amber Youtz currently ranks sixth among all players in NCAA Division I in points per game (2.81) and seventh in goals per game (1.13). She leads the Atlantic 10 in both categories, and also leads the conference in assists with nine (0.56 per game). Youtz is a reigning A-10 co-Player of the Week, and earned the honor on her own earlier in the season after recording back-to-back hat tricks in two wins for the Owls. With 45 points, Youtz ranks eighth all-time in a single season in program history. Her 18 goals currently rank 10th all-time in a single season.
SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS...
The Billikens have struggled to a 1-14 overall record, and are still without a win in conference play. After defeating Ball State 3-2 on Sept. 23, Saint Louis has lost five straight. Lexi Lindblad and Tori Lycett lead the Billikens with four goals apiece, while Lisa Smith has recorded three goals along with two assists.
SCOUTING RICHMOND...
Richmond is ranked 17th in the NFHCA Top 25 Poll, with an overall record of 11-4. The Spiders, who are 3-0 in the A-10, will play Saint Joseph's on Friday before facing Temple on Sunday. All four of Richmond's losses are to nationally-ranked teams, and they also have two wins over teams that were ranked (American and William & Mary). Taylor Deitrick leads the Spiders with 10 goals, while Rebecca Barry is the points leader with nine goals and seven assists.
