AMHERST, Mass. - The nationally-ranked Massachusetts Minutewomen showed their strength against Temple field hockey on Friday afternoon, allowing just one late goal as the Owls lost 4-1. Temple has just one regular-season game remaining and will host Saint Joseph's for Senior Day (Katie Briglia Day) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

The Owls (11-8, 4-2) kept fighting despite the deficit in the second half, and scored with a minute to go in the game. #18 UMass (11-8, 5-1) scored all four of its goals in the second half.

Neither team got many opportunities on offense in the first half, primarily controlling the ball towards the middle of the field. The Minutewomen got one penalty corner just two minutes in, but the resulting shot was saved by Temple's Lizzy Millen.

Less than five minutes into the first half, UMass was able to get on the board when a pass from Alexa Sikalis to Kim Young found its way into the bottom right corner of the cage.

Noralie Weusthuis flicked a shot over a diving Millen just four minutes later, giving UMass a 2-0 lead in the 44th minute. Ten minutes later, a penalty corner resulted in the third goal for the Minutewomen and second goal for Young.

The Owls had three shots over the next ten minutes, including one that required a defensive save for UMass. Finally in the last minute of the game, Nicole Kroener redirected a shot by Katie Briglia on a penalty corner play and put Temple on the board. The Owls pulled goalkeeper Haley Mitchell following the score, but the Minutewomen controlled the next possession and were able to put the ball into an open cage for the final tally of 4-1.
