A-10 Postseason Awards Release (PDF)

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Temple's Amber Youtz was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Year and Massachusetts' Lauren Allymohamed was tabbed as the league's Defensive Player of the Year in voting conducted among the conference's head coaches. Youtz and three other Owls were honored with recognition to either the first team, rookie team or academic team.

In that same vote the coaches tabbed Richmond's Taylor Deitrick as Rookie of the Year and Massachusetts' third-year head coach Carla Tagliente as Coach of the Year.

Youtz has started in all 20 games this season and ranks among the nation's leaders in both goals and points. Her team and league-best 21 goals also rank sixth in NCAA Division I (1.05 goals per game), and her team and league-best 52 total points rank seventh in the nation (2.60 points per game). Youtz is tied for fifth all-time at Temple for goals in a single season, and is tied for sixth all-time in points in a season. She was a two-time A-10 Player of the Week, and was an A-10 All-Rookie selection a year ago.

Briglia, the team's lone senior, has now racked up her third A-10 First Team honor. Her 11 assists lead the team and the conference, and she has also scored six goals for 23 total points. She was recently honored with selection to the NFHCA Senior Game, and was a Longstreth/NFHCA All-Region Second Team selection last year.

With a 3.68 GPA as a broadcasting, telecommunications and mass media major, Briglia was also one of 11 field hockey student-athletes selected to the Academic All-Conference Team.

Two of the Owls' standout freshmen were named to the All-Rookie Team- Alyssa Delp and Taylor Shronk. Delp is currently tied for seventh in the A-10 in goals with nine, having been a solid scoring threat for Temple all throughout her debut season. Shronk, who has started in all 20 games, has helped anchor the defense for Temple and has played more minutes than anyone on the team apart from Briglia. With two defensive saves, Shronk is tied for seventh in the A-10.

The 2012 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship begins Friday, Nov. 3, at the University of Massachusetts' Garber Field. For complete coverage, including free live streaming, log on to atlantic10.com. First up for third-seeded Temple is a semifinal match-up with second-seeded UMass at 2:00 p.m.
