Katie Briglia Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Field Hockey Team

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Katie Briglia has been honored as one of 11 student-athletes named to the 2012 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Field Hockey Team. West Chester's Michele Schrift was selected as the Performer of the Year. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area, an athlete must be in her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.
With a 3.68 grade-point-average as a broadcasting, telecommunications & mass media major, Briglia was also named to the 2012 Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team. She is a three-time A-10 First Team selection, and recorded 11 assists to lead the team and rank second in the Atlantic 10 this season. Briglia scored five goals to rank fifth on the team, including two game-winning goals.
Briglia, who has twice been named to the Temple President's Honor Roll, was the Owls' lone senior and a team co-captain in 2012. She started in all 20 games, and was named to the 2012 Atlantic 10 All-Championship Team.
Briglia is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Field Hockey Team by Schrift, Arcadia's Lynn Beatty, Cabrini's Lindsey Atzert, Drexel's Amanda Fleischut and Kristen Focht, Gwynedd-Mercy's Kelsey Deveney, Haverford's Mary Hobbs, La Salle's Becca Chylack, and West Chester's Kristin Arnold and Kayla Gluchowski.
