NEW YORK - The Temple men's basketball team has been one of the best teams in the nation over the past three seasons in bouncing back after a defeat. That is exactly what the Owls will need to do Saturday when they take on #3/3 Syracuse at historic Madison Square Garden in the Chervolet Gotham Classic Challenge Round presented by UnderArmour.  The nationally-televised (ESPN2) game will tip-off at noon and be broadcast by 1210 AM WPHT.

The Owls (8-2), under the direction of seventh-year head coach Fran Dunphy, have only lost consecutive games once since February 29, 2009, that occurred with back-to-back defeats to end the 2012 season.  With Wednesday's 72-62 loss to Canisius that ended Temple's 11-game win streak at the Liacouras Center, the Owls will be looking to stave off consecutive setbacks Saturday.

Senior guards Khalif Wyatt (14.5 ppg., 3.9 apg.) and Scootie Randall (13.7 ppg., 7.5 rpg.) lead the Temple attack while sophomore forward Anthony Lee (10.4 ppg.) also averages double figures.  Senior forward Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (9.2 ppg.) leads the team in steals (2.0 spg.) while sophomore guard Will Cummings (5.7 ppg.), coming off a career-high 10 points against Canisius, rounds out the starters.

Graduates Jake O'Brien (7.5 ppg.) and T.J. DiLeo (3.8 ppg.) are the top two reserves with junior Dalton Pepper (1.8 ppg.) and freshman Quenton DeCosey (3.6 ppg.) also seeing quality time off the bench.

Syracuse (10-0), under the direction of Hall of Fame coach Jim Boeheim, boasts a balanced attack featuring four double figure scorers.  Senior forward James Southerland, one of the top sixth men in the nation, leads the Orange, averaging 15.9 points per game on a team-best 26 three-pointers (45.6%). Brandon Triche (14.5 ppg.), Michael Carter-Williams (12.3 ppg.) and C.J.  Fair (11.3 ppg.) also score in double digits with Carter-Williams leading the nation in assists at 10.7 per game.

Sophomore Rakeem Christmas (7.6 ppg.), a Philadelphia native (Academy of New Church), tops the team in blocks (2.5 pg.) while freshman DaJuan Coleman (6.7 ppg.) rounds out the Orange starting five.

Syracuse owns a 16-13 edge in the series between the schools with the last meeting coming at Madison Square Garden, a 65-54 Temple win in the third place game of the 2002 NIT Tournament (3/28/02).
