AMBLER, Pa. –
For the second straight weekend, Temple Baseball will play host to three different opponents at Skip Wilson Field. In what has been designated as the Big 5 Baseball Bash, the Owls will welcome Saint Peter's on Friday at 3:00 p.m. to open the weekend. As the weekend continues, New York Institute of Technology will make its way to Ambler for Saturday's 1:00 p.m. start, before the Binghamton Bearcats roll in to close out the weekend with a doubleheader, which will commence Sunday at Noon. Live stats will be provided for all four games. As always, follow Temple_Baseball on Twitter.

Leading the charge for the Owls on the mound will be their usual weekend suspects: sophomore Matt Hockenberry in the opener, freshman southpaw Patrick Peterson on Saturday and redshirt senior Steve Nikorak in game one of the doubleheader on Sunday with game two's starter yet to be determined by first-year head coach Ryan Wheeler.

Following a break within their recent home stretch at the University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, the Owls are returning to their home field for the next four-game string of games at Skip Wilson Field after their 11-9 come-from-behind victory in extra innings.

Nikorak is carrying a hot bat. Having at least a hit in each of the last eight games, the Owls' third baseman and third pitcher in the starting rotation, has reached base in all 16 games, giving him a team-high .440 on base percentage.

During the hit streak, Nikorak is batting .471 (16-for-34) with eight extra-base hits (five doubles, two triples and a home run.

Junior Elijah Yarborough has been swing the bat well for the Owls in the clean-up role, forcing opposing pitchers to pitch to Nikorak.

Over the same eight-game stretch, Yarborough is hitting .303 with 10 hits and 10 runs batted in.

New faces that have become everyday players for the Owls—freshman Nick Lustrino and sophomore Connor Reilly—have helped the team fill major voids that opened due to departing seniors from last year's team.

Lustrino is tied for third on the team with 19 hits in his rookie season, while contributing 16 runs and six runs batted in.

Reilly, a walk-on and backup quarterback for the school's football team, is currently on a six-game hitting streak. With a .341 batting average, the Owls' right fielder is ranked third on the team.

Out of the 'pen, redshirt junior Steve Visnic and rookie Eric Peterson have been the most consistent arms for the Owls. Visnic has surrounded just one run in his last four appearances, while Peterson is coming of a relief appearance in which he pitched 6.0 innings while allowing just a single run on three hits with a career-high five strikeouts against La Salle on Tuesday.

In home games this season, Temple is 2-2 on the year, where they are outscoring their opponents by a run (28-27) while batting .338.
Friday's game features a Saint Peter's squad that has won just one time in 2012 thus far. The Peacocks will take on La Salle and Saint Joseph's in the Big 5 round robin.

Saint Peter's Russell Stupienski is leading the team with 10 hits and a batting average of .256.

Zack Hopf has been the Peacocks' top pitcher early on, owning a 2.62 ERA through four starts.

After it takes on Villanova on Friday, the Bears of NYIT will shift from Plymouth Meeting to Ambler for Saturday's contest with the Owls.

NYIT, who is under interim head coach Mike Mac Millan, is in search for its third win. The Bears have defeated Fairleigh Dickinson and Albany already this season.

Ali Rodriquez has carried the team offensively in the early portion of the schedule, as he is hiiting .441 through the team's first nine games, having 15 hits—five of which are doubles.

Ryan Campbell has also been a force in the batter's box, also hitting well over .300 with a batting average of .321 through 30 plate appearances over a seven-game span.

Closing out the weekend, Binghamton arrives to Skip Wilson Field for a twin bill after playing St. Joe's and Villanova.

The Bearcats, who are celebrating their 10-year anniversary since going Division-I, have played only six games to this point after having a three-game set at Norfolk State washed out.

Entering the weekend, the team is in search of its first win of the season.

Leading the Bearcats, Jake Thomas is hitting .333 with a team-high seven hits through the six games.
Jake Lambert will have the start in the mound for Binghamton in game one of the two-gamer, as he heads to the bump ranked second on the team in innings pitched (10.2).
