Elko Nails Two-Run RBI Double in the Sixth

AMBLER, Pa. – Temple baseball scored three runs in the sixth inning to forge ahead, defeating St. Peter's, 4-1, at Skip Wilson Field on Friday afternoon.
The Owls improved to 7-10 overall, while the Peacocks fell to 3-15.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, junior LF Jordan Queja drove in senior Jabair Khan to put the Owls on the scoreboard.
TU added three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Redshirt junior Matt Elko had a two-run double, bringing in junior Elijah Yarbrough, who singled, and sophomore Connor Reilly, who also singled to extend his hitting streak to a seven games . Khan then singled to left field, bringing in Elko to put the Owls ahead, 4-0.
St. Peter's scored its only run in the top of the eighth on a double by William Rawson, who drove in Justyn Carter.
Overall, Temple had seven hits and no errors, while St. Peter's had eight hits and two errors. Winning pitcher Matt Hockenberry (3-0) pitched 8.0 innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Redshirt senior Steve Nikorak walked in the third inning, putting himself on base for the 17th straight game to begin the season.
Temple continues its four-game homestand on Saturday, March 17 with a non-conference game against New York Tech. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
