WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Due to a rained out game back on March 31, Temple and Monmouth will make up the postponed game Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Kessler Field. In the first two games of the series, which was played as a home-and-home, the Owls took both contests with by counts of 5-3 and 7-1. Freshman right hander Eric Peterson will make his third start of the season for the Owls.
In the weekend finale game back on April 1 at Skip Wilson Field, the Owls played arguably their best all around game of the season. Since then, Temple (12-19, 0-6) has struggled, going 0-4 after dropping a game to Lehigh and an A-10 weekend series at Fordham.
Senior Jabair Khan is carrying a hot bat as of late, having at least one hit in each of the last seven games. In that span he has batted .462, going 12-for-26 with five extra-base hits, helping to boost his overall season batting average by 70 points.
Freshman Nick Lustrino is coming off a consistent week, as he continued to be an offensive threat during his rookie season. The short stop from Spring Lake, N.J. led the Owls with nine hits and a .562 batting average. Lustrino had multi-hit games in all four contests, giving him 15 multiple-hit games on the year, which leads the team. Lustrino also carries the team's highest batting average, hitting .325 through 30 games.
Since dropping the series to the Owls a week and a half ago, Monmouth (18-12, 9-3) is surging with a five-game winning streak. The Hawks completed a three-game sweep of Quinnipiac at home this weekend.
Senior Jamie Rosenkranz leads the team with 41 hits and holds the team's highest batting average at .331, while Danny Avella comes in with a team-high four home runs and 26 runs batted in.
