Four of those named to NJ Travel Team for Women's National Championship
PHILADELPHIA - Seven members of the Temple field hockey team have been named to US Field Hockey Association High Performance Squads, including four who will travel with the New Jersey Team to the Women's National Championship in early June. Head Coach Amanda Janney will serve as an assistant coach for that team.
Molly Doyle, Nicole Kroener, Lizzy Millen and Amber Youtz have all been selected for the travel team for New Jersey, and will take part in the Women's National Championship in College Park, Md., from June 1-8. Teammates Haley Mitchell and Mandi Shearer will join those four on the New Jersey High Performance training squad.
Katie Briglia has been named to the High Performance Pennsylvania training squad, and will be joined by Temple alum and current assistant coach Charise Young.
"This is an impressive number of Temple players involved in High Performance, and we are proud of the four who have made the travel team for New Jersey," said Janney. "This is another step forward for our TUFH program, as we have never had this many Temple players play at the Women's National Championship. Since it's an Olympic year, the competition level will be extremely high and I'm excited for our players to compete against players on our US National Team who played in the 2008 Olympics and are fighting for their spots on the 2012 Olympic team. This experience will be invaluable for our players and I know they will learn a lot that they can bring back to our team for this fall."
The Women's National Championship features the most elite athletes in the country, including collegiate all-stars, current National Team members and members of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Women's Field Hockey Team. The 8-day showcase event that commences on June 1 features eight regions playing in five matches, including the finals on June 8. Regions are led by some of the top college coaches in the nation.
