Field Hockey Team Enjoys Continued Academic Success

PHILADELPHIA - After being recognized last summer for its multi-year academic performance rate (APR), the Temple field hockey team has raised the bar yet again with its highest-ever semester grade-point-average. The field hockey student-athletes achieved a 3.49 GPA as a team in the fall of 2012, and their cumulative GPA is an impressive 3.41.

Last June, the NCAA honored selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest APR, and field hockey was one of three teams at Temple to be honored along with the baseball and men's gymnastics teams. Each year, the announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams who demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APR's within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multi-year APR's in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.

“We were very grateful for the recognition of our team's academic success,"  said field hockey head coach Amanda Janney, "and we're so proud of our players for continuing to work so hard in the classroom. Temple provides a tremendous amount of academic support for our student-athletes and we are thankful that each one of our players has graduated. I am proud of the culture of academic success that we have created within our team. Our players are conscious of our focus on academics. They are disciplined on and off the field, and they encourage each other's successes in the classroom.”
