PHILADELPHIA - Senior and team co-captain Molly Doyle of the 17th-ranked Temple field hockey team has been selected to participate in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Senior Game on Nov. 23. Thirty-eight Division I players earned the honor to play in the game, which will be held at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex at 2:15 p.m. on that Saturday.
"We're extremely proud of Molly and all her accomplishments," said Temple head coach Amanda Janney. "She has really developed into one of the best defenders in the nation, and it will be great to see her play with the other top seniors. Throughout the past years, our seniors have been able to show that they are some of the best players in the country. Katie Briglia had a wonderful Senior Game last year against the US National Team, and we're excited to see Molly do the same."Â
Doyle is one of five BIG EAST players to be selected for the Senior Game, and is the eighth senior in seven years who will represent the Owls at the game. Preceding Briglia was All-American Bridget Settles in 2011, who scored in the game, and Sarah Dalrymple who was a standout in goal in 2010. Other Owls to be selected in the past seven years include Charise Young, Mary Catherine Kinneman, Ashley Bird and All-American Alli Lokey.
Doyle's eight goals rank second on the team this season, as do her 19 total points. She has anchored a defensive unit that has recorded five shutouts, and was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week in early September after leading the Owls to a 3-0 upset of then-#6 Penn State. On October 6, Doyle recorded her first career hat trick to lead Temple to a 3-1 win vs. Bucknell.
The Senior Game is being held near the site of the NCAA Semifinals and Championship, ODU, and will be played on the day in between those contests.Â
